The Mengedda Plains are the natural geographical frontier between Shigek and Nansur, just south of the Unaras Spur and north of the Gedea Highlands. Because of the many battles that have occurred there, the site is also commonly known as the Battleplain[1].

As the site of innumerable battles, the fields are widely reputed to be haunted[2]. Bones and small objects are constantly vomited forth from the earth, and those who sleep there are prone to suffering nightmares. According to Drusas Achamian, the death of the No-God turned the battleplain into a powerful topos. Common legend holds that the souls of all who die on the Battleplain remained trapped there, as exemplified by the line in The Sagas, "The soul that encounters Him passes no further"[3].
